A Grade II listed Victorian coal store, currently used as storage space, is to be converted into dance and performance studios. A new pavilion in the adjacent grounds is connected to the coal store by a glazed link, providing ancillary facilities for the faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The existing coal store fabric is to be augmented to meet current standards, in particular for thermal and energy performance levels whilst at the same time conserving the buildings external appearance. The interior of the building will retain much of the buildings industrial character whilst still providing state of the art teaching and performance studios.
